OLOL Hockey Leadership Program 

In partnership with Athol Murray College of Notre Dame 

OLOL’s Hockey Leadership Program builds on the approaches of legendary educator and Hockey Hall of Famer Father Athol Murray to develop leaders of character – on the ice, in the classroom and in the community.  

The OLOL Hockey Leadership Program focuses on the development of the whole person: Mind, Body and Spirit.

Using hockey to to teach students to grow as athletes, teammates, and young leaders, guided by the values of faith, discipline, and responsibility.

Program Details

  • Available to Our Lady of Lourdes School students (Grades 5–8)

  • September–March season

  • Small cohort: only 15 spots available

Investment

  • $2,000 total (plus OLOL tuition)

  • Approx. $243/month over 7 months

Through the Notre Dame leadership curriculum, students explore the connection between God, Canada, and Hockey — and how each plays a role in shaping who they become.

The program includes guided classroom sessions that focus on: 

  • Knowing yourself and your purpose 

  • Understanding others and building strong relationships 

  • Communication and leadership skills 

  • Being part of a team 

  • Leading with integrity and character  

Leadership begins within — learning to reflect, take responsibility, and grow through both success and challenge. 

The Leadership Workbook

The Notre Dame Hockey Leadership Workbook drives everything.

This is not just a handout — it’s the core of how players take ownership of their development. 

Players will:

  • Assess their game

  • Set goals

  • Track progress

  • Adjust and improve

They’ll learn to:

  • Think for themselves

  • Take ownership

  • Build real confidence

  • Enjoy the process

What does the average week look like?

Students remain fully integrated within OLOL while participating in the program. 

Tuesdays and Thursdays 

  • Morning: Regular academic classes at OLOL 

  • Early afternoon: Bus departs OLOL 

  • On-ice session: West Kelowna Hockey Centre 

  • Focus: Skill development aligned to the five key areas 

  • Return: Back to OLOL before end of day 

Off-Ice Sessions (weekly) 

  • Leadership classroom sessions at OLOL 

  • Workbook development and reflection 

  • Goal setting and progress tracking
